Kicking off 2024 in style, MAGIC Miami is the perfect opportunity for retailers to celebrate a fresh start, by offering post-holiday inventory with trend-right immediates and spring/summer direction.

A FIRST LOOK AT WHAT'S NEW

This January, buyers and brands can look forward to an exciting change of scenery and a first look at this season and beyond in Miami. “Historically we used to deliver this January event in New York, however we wanted to try something new; launching a market in Miami was the perfect fit for us as it offers a convenient and inviting east coast location deep rooted in rich culture, art, and of course, fashion,” said Jordan Rudow, Vice President, MAGIC. Attendees can expect to find the best of what’s trending now, but also, a glimpse at what’s next for the summer and fall markets. “It’s an opportunity to shop a curated setting, cross-shop all categories and get a preview before our larger markets of Las Vegas and New York whether to restock inventory post-holiday or shop for immediate deliveries of spring/summer.” All attendees will have the opportunity to purchase products from participating brands directly from the show floor because we are bringing back the highly requested Cash & Carry to MAGIC Miami.

"IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOP A CURATED SETTING, CROSS-SHOP ALL CATEGORIES AND GET A PREVIEW BEFORE OUR LARGER MARKETS OF LAS VEGAS AND NEW YORK WHETHER TO RESTOCK INVENTORY POST HOLIDAY OR SHOP FOR IMMEDIATE DELIVERIES OF SPRING/SUMMER."

- JORDAN RUDOW, VP, MAGIC

“When we think of Miami, we imagine ourselves in a paradise escape; perfect for the colors and prints our brand is known for,” said Manny Cabrera, Senior Customer Representative at FRNCH. Like many brands participating in this event, FRNCH is looking forward to utilizing MAGIC Miami as a platform to debut new collections and exclusives, with buyers getting a first look at what’s to come. “We will be debuting our high summer 2024 at the show, as well as our top sellers for spring, from matching sets, to skirts, tops, and dresses.”

ELAN Sales Director Greg Wise also noted that the MAGIC Miami event is an opportunity for buyers to shop what’s now and what’s new. “We will be showing all 2024 seasons so there is something for everyone. For many customers, this will be their first chance to shop summer 2024 in person; we will also be bringing resort and spring 2024 for the crowd looking to shop immediates.” However, the brand will also offer never-before-seen merchandise for fall as the event will be the first-time retailers can shop their new fall offering. “ELAN is launching fall 2024 at MAGIC Miami so this will be the first show to premiere the collection. It’s such a strong collection, with novelty sweaters, graphics, dresses in various fabrics from chiffon to cotton in flattering silhouettes, as well as fashion forward styles in faux leather and yummy knits.”

Besides what’s new in design, brands also look forward to connecting with buyers on like-minded practices. “Miami, with its vibrant energy and diverse audience, provides an excellent platform for us to connect with a new audience,” said Mohit Juneja, CEO of America & Beyond. “We are eager to showcase our eco-conscious collections in a market that appreciates both style and environmental responsibility. The Miami market's openness to embracing sustainable fashion aligns perfectly with our brand ethos.”

WHAT TO SHOP

Luxe resort and spring trends continuing a vibe of quiet style are expected to be amongst the hottest items at the event, as Rudow noted that “rich neutrals, statement jewelry, pointed toe footwear, sling backs, and double belts” should be high on buyers’ checklists.

Lainie Schreiber, National Sales Director at Latico Leathers, aligned, sharing that sophisticated fabrications - such as the brand’s “twice-washed, super luxe leathers” - are directional for the season’s luxe trends that also lend themselves to investment wearability. “We’re most looking forward to sharing our bags’ multi-function capabilities, offered in lightweight silhouettes, like convertible slings and bum bags, as well as our stand-out, easy-to-wear totes that are unique and elevated.”

For Christine Chung, Vice President, Sales at Just Black Denim, MAGIC Miami marks the perfect occasion - and venue - to debut the brand’s newest trend stories. “Spring is about newness and is heavily influenced by those continuing nineties and early 2000s trends, when there was so much happening in denim. First, in the rise - although we’re still seeing high rise as ‘now’ and immediate, low rise will be having a big moment at the show as that’s a huge trend for spring and going forward. We’ll have the return of ‘jorts,’ so more baggy and longer length shorts. Denim skirts continue as the hottest item, both in micro and maxi lengths. But for this show, we’re so excited to showcase our color palette, created in a new wash effect and including colors like soft pinks, olives, and of course peach - which was just announced as Pantone Color of the Year, so a must-have. In the southeast market, white denim is a perennial best-seller, and we will also be offering lots of styles to buyers looking to fill inventory for early spring.”

"SPRING IS ABOUT NEWNESS AND IS HEAVILY INFLUENCED BY THOSE CONTINUING NINETIES AND EARLY 2000s TRENDS, WHEN THERE WAS SO MUCH HAPPENING IN DENIM."

- CHRISTINE CHUNG, VICE PRESIDENT, SALES AT JUST BLACK DENIM

Caleb Westbay, Sales Director at Prince Peter Collection, echoes the demand for nineties nostalgia, a subject that will be star of some of the newest styles in their brand. “Weezer, Alanis Morisette, Whitney Houston, cassette tape graphics - all really big this season. While the seventies and eighties also have their moments, right now the hottest trends are related to the nineties. But because the concept of vintage is so important as well, it’s also how we create the garments to make them feel authentic, a bit of distressing that makes them feel elevated.”

Schreiber also shared that crochet whip-stitching would be a hot spring trend to shop in handbags; a detail that has crossover appeal in ready-to-wear, as Wise noted the fabrication proving strong from buyer response. “Crochet has been very strong, whether it is knit sweaters from spring or dresses and sarongs from the resort collection. Our most popular sweaters from spring have been crochet looks,” with mixed media and denim dressing also ranking high for resort and spring.

CONNECT + BUILD RELATIONSHIPS IN A NEW MARKET

Brands are looking forward to taking advantage of the newly launched destination, not just to show their collections but also to connect with the city itself. “Miami is all about fashion, art, and fun; it’s the perfect melting pot of cultures, it’s colorful and has a bold vibe, which then feels like the perfect synergy and connection for the show,” Westbay said.

“As a brand, we’ve been in business for about forty years and this is our first time showing in Miami; we could not be more excited,” Chung said. “From past experiences though, it’s been an incredible market for us at this time of year, so we are thrilled to be a part of this launch.

The MAGIC team echoes this sentiment of excitement building up to the event. “We have a big community in the southeast region, so this was really the perfect opportunity to connect to this audience, plus the size of this event offers ease of shopping, and the Miami Beach Convention Center couldn’t be more conveniently located offering an overall easy and enjoyable travel experience, for both business and pleasure,” said Rudow.
