For brands and buyers attending the upcoming edition of MAGIC Las Vegas in February, trends of oversized silhouettes, decorative adornments, and feminine details all make for a “main character moment” (as highlighted in our recent FW 24/25 Women’s Trend Guide) that defines the style of the season.

"THE YEAR OF THE GIRL" - PART 2

As many coined 2023 "The Year of the Girl," sweet and feminine design details from bows to balletcore were trend drivers. Entering the upcoming FW 24/25 season, brands continue to evolve this styling, calling in "a desire to romanticize everyday life" - as noted in our recent FW 24/25 Women's Trend Guide - and sure to continue as a strong story to shop at MAGIC Las Vegas. As a key concept featured in in our latest Young Contemporary Womens Buyer's Guide, Balletic Adornment,  "taps into ever-present femininity. Sheer and silky materials should be highlighted across assortments for newness, while traditional ballet flats maintain commercial appeal."

For some brands, the girly aesthetic marks an opportunity to add playfully dramatic touches within a collection's hero designs. "The inspiration behind incorporating a giant bow detail into our collection stems from our anticipation of the emerging trend of 'New Retro' in 2024," says Sean Han, CEO, and Amy Ju, Project Manager of Aaron & Amber. "To align with this aesthetic, we've infused our styles with a touch of oversized elements, and specifically, we've introduced rectangular padding along the shoulder line. This design choice not only reflects our forward-thinking approach but also aims to capture the essence of the anticipated trends."

Tricia Carll, National Sales Manager of Lines of Denmark agrees. For her brand Henriette Steffensen, she notes, "In general, the collections are created to be worn and enjoyed by many body types, age groups and lifestyles. The product itself is meant to be fashionable yet cozy and comfy. [However] we see a trend back to adding feminine touches, such as ruffles and ribbon ties, and have added these in some lovely new silhouettes."

Other brands, like Jacquie the Label, note that inherent feminine DNA of their collection is in organic alignment with the season's outsized sweetness. "Because Jacquie the Label focuses mainly [on] feminine silhouttes and details, tiered skirts and ruffles are a common theme in our collection. Puff sleeves add a touch of drama and elegance as well," says Danny Park, Sales Director. "These design features contribute to the overall femininity of our brands' aesthetic."

FLUID SILHOUETTES

While femininity is a key driver of this volume trend, other brands note that tenets of wearability and fluidity are also influential to their designs making this a key trend for FW 24/25 and extend further into SS 25. "The oversize trend in fashion aligns with future weather conditons, particularly high temperatures and humidity. Loose, flowing silhouettes provide better airflow, keeping individuals cool in warm climates," says June Kim, COO, Beulah Style. "Additionally, the gender-neutral aspect reflects a broader societal shift towards inclusivity, promoting comfortable and universally appealing styles that suit diverse preferences and body types in changing weather conditions. As fashion represents cultural identity, our brand conveniently varies in innovative, distinctive styles for a true authentic feel for every personality."

Shellie Slade, Wholesale Manager of modern + chic echoes this sentiment, highlighting functionality as an aligned attribute to volume size for the brand's Signature Tote. "Designing products for the 'on-the-go' modern woman is what we do best. This year's trend of playing with proportion allows our Signature Tote - [which] epitomizes the oversized trend's effortlessly cool aesthetic - [to] ensure she can carry everything she needs for work, commuting, her kids, going to the gym, and more."

VOLUME AT NEW HEIGHTS

In footwear, platform and wedge silhouettes bring the volume trend to new heights as continued references to '90s styling drive the market. "Our new Beckett platform sneaker was inspired by a Volatile platform sneaker that put us on the map in the 1990s, the Expulsion," notes Kyle Martin, Marketing Manager of PVFootwear. "This new version is a nod to the retro jogger style while the glitter and rhinestone details tap into the Y2K trend with a modern refresh." Championing legacy bestsellers alongside newness for FW 24/25 - like "new fall transition wedges, ultra-comfortable platform sneakers, brand new wedge boots and booties with our signature comfort features" - give the new season high style.
